Turtle Bay

We made it to Turtle Bay! Left Ensanada around noon on Tuesday (I think) and got in to Turtle Bay Friday morning around 8am. The days are already hard to keep track of, and we are constantly trying to figure out what the date or day of the week. After 3 days of sailing non-stop, we´re totally stoked to be at anchor, hop on the dinghy and walk around on land for a while. We hope to work on a few things tonight, restock with fuel and water, then head for Mag Bay around sunrise tomorrow. This last leg was a good test for everyone and things have started to run smoothly on the Lone Star. We crossed Vizcaino Bay succesfully, which is one of the largest ocean crossings we will have on this trip. We got some strong winds and higher seas, which was really fun and we made great headway, but we were prepared and everything went well. We´re hauling through Baja, in search of warmer weather, one more stop in Mag Bay before Cabo, then to La Paz before crossing the Gulf of California. Its been really cold at night and the late night/early morning shifts are brutal. Here in Turtle Bay we got our first taste of warm weather, its sunny and 75 degrees out. But out on the ocean, its cold pretty much all day. Can´t wait for 75 degree waters of mainland Mexico, we talk about it all the time. I´ll try and post some more pics in Cabo or La Paz, but left my laptop on the boat today.
And here are some links from my SPOT device showing our location each day, you can also copy the lat/long into google earth for those of you that are tech savy:
In Ensanada Harbor... http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=31.8591,-116.6258&ie=UTF8&z=12&om=1
Just south of Todos Santos, a few hours out of Ensanada Harbor - http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=31.7231,-116.811&ie=UTF8&z=12&om=1
20 miles off the coast from San Quintin, which we decided to skip to save time - http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=30.0517,-116.1987&ie=UTF8&z=12&om=1
Just off Isla Cedros after crossing the bight of Vizcaino Bay - http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=28.3036,-115.5038&ie=UTF8&z=12&om=1
Turtle Bay - http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=27.6883,-114.8876&ie=UTF8&z=12&om=1

Once I get to a computer with Google Earth I can put together a kml file of all our locations as a route...but who wants to spend all day on a computer. Thats why we´re on this sailing trip. Not having a cell phone is freakin awesome!

Til next time,
Josh

  1. Yo!
Travels sound sweet! Don't fall overboard! (at least not yet, it's still cold) :-)

You should forget about this whole day of the week, thing, when you're sailing, there are no days of the week...just keep a tally somewhere or whenever you take your Baillena's to get recycled, just take the number, divide by 3 (per person) and that's how many days you've been sailing. :-)

    Happy trails!
