Land's End

Matt in Bahia Santa Maria, just north of Mag Bay

Lobster Machaca for breakfast, we traded Lobsters for 4 batteries a piece!
Sunset over San Benito Islands

Sunrise Headed into Turtle Bay, the morning watches are sweet because an hour or two into your shift you can watch the sunrise.
Showers at sea are a bucket of sea water and shampoo. Real cold in northern Baja, but getting warmer everyday.
Leaving Cabo San Lucas. Real fun party town...
Partying in Squid Row. All cleaned up and hittin the town. First time in week's we were in a bar.

We made it to Cabo San Lucas. Yesterday afternoon we passed by Land's End, the southern tip of Baja. The tip is just outside the harbor of Cabo San Lucas, and is quite spectacular with huge mountain peaks dropping off into deep ocean and a large natural arch. We went out to bars last night and enjoyed walking around on solid ground. The trip from Mag Bay was a quick one and we made 170 miles in under 36 hours. Thats really good time on a sailboat! Check out the pictures above from our last week through Baja.

From Turtle Bay, we crossed another large bight where the land dipped in near Scorpion Bay. It took us 2 1/2 days to get to Bahia Santa Maria, which is just north of Mag Bay (Bahia De Magdalena). We spent the night at Santa maria at anchor. Joaquin and I checked Punta Hughes for surf but no luck. In the morning when we were pulling up anchor two fishermen came by in their panga(small fiberglass fishing boat seen everywhere down here) and traded us three lobsters for 12 AA batteries. We got the batteries at Costco, so the lobsters cost us about $1.50 each. I boiled up the lobsters once we were on our way south and mixed it up with eggs and potatoes for a Lobster Machaca breakfast. Ohhh man it was good.

That afternoon we pulled into Mag Bay which was incredible to see. There was so much wildlife we were all blown away. Thousands of fishing birds, including dozens of Osprey (rare up north)...thats right Paul, dozens! We also saw literally hundreds of dolphins and got some sweet video of dolphins swimming right underneath us. We anchored outside of Puerto Magdalena, population 116. The Port Captain came out on a panga and checked our paperwork and gave us a ride to the beach. We had lobsters for dinner at the only restaraunt in town. We were the only customers there. The owner took our order, then went down to the beach, got in a panga, pulled up a trap about 100 feet from shore, and grabbed our lobsters for dinner! Hilarious, we were all three laughing so hard. Back in the states we always joke "What are they killing the chicken back there". Down here the food was literally caught for us. Deep fried lobster smothered in butter and garlic. MMMMM! We also met another gringo who runs a surf camp and eco tours in Mag Bay. Real cool guy.

From Mag Bay to Cabo was about 170 miles and we made REAL good time and arrived in under 36 hours. We rounded the point at Cabo at 8 knots double reefed and were loving it. What scared us a week before is now just good sailing. Cabo was fun and we mostly relaxed, ate fresh food and explore the bars at night. Real fun town but super expensive, like downtown San Diego prices. Over that! We got out of Cabo on the 4th, happy to have satyed and even happier to leave. The life of a sailor I guess.
