"Stuck" in Manzanillo
We left Manzanillo late last night, hoping to pull into Pasquales (famous surf spot) early in this morning for a sunrise session. However, about 2 hours outside of the harbor, we heard a strange clicking noise in the engine, then louder bangs. We cut the engine and drifted with no wind until sunrise, when I sailed back into Manzanillo while Joaquin and Matt caught some sleep. We anchored back at the cove in front of Las Hadas Marina, under sail power only which was tricky. We got a mechanic to check out our engine this afternoon and he confirmed what we feared, its a valve problem. Whcih means we'll be ordering parts from the US, hav ing them shipped down and then installed, a one or two week process. We are still in high spirits, cause we are "stuck" in a cool town. We are also at anchor, which means FREE. I've put up a few pictures of our new home. Not too shabby huh? I haven't been getting a good connection on Skype here, but will try again and probably grab a phone card since we may be here a while. We are kinda bummed on this swine flu thing, its not a big deal health wise, but all the bars and several restaurants have been ordered to close by the government. Bummer! The streets are dead anytime after 6pm. There is still a lot going on during the day though, and lots of people wear surgical masks...which is a bad idea cause it can actually be worse (trapping air flow, always touching your hands to it, and the fact that this is a VIRUS...read small). Go with the flow I guess. We are in such a laid back mood these days after spending so much time in Mexico, we dont really care too much about any of the bad news from the last few days. We are still enjoying warm weather and friendly people. Life is still good with the right mindset, and ours are pretty soild right now. I'll keep everyone updated on our progress with the engine, but we may not make any progress til Monday. Until then we will lay out at the hotel pool and enjoy ourselves.
This is the marina, Las Hadas. Its also a hotel and has condos up on the hill.
This is the main hotel area next to the marina.
Here is a picture of the boat with Barcelo resort in the background.
